guest posting {fabulous framed fabric}
Today we have another visitor here on b*spoke. It’s been so fun having company on the blog, and I cannot thank these lovely ladies enough for sharing their ideas and inspiration with us. Not only has it been a blast to have some fresh voices around here, it’s been a big help for me as I’ve been swamped with projects and work and a little thing we like to call “life”.
Our guest blogger today is none other than Rachel Johnson of Birdy Blue Design (you can follow her on Twitter here, and watch for her announcement about her new blog, launching in March). Rachel is also one of the designers for Emmy Lu, and she has contributed a number of amazing, beautiful pieces to our collection. Today she has a great little project to share, so take it away Rachel!

Well hello! My name is Rachel and I am so thrilled to be able to post an easy DIY project on b*spoke. Emmy Lu and b*spoke have both been such an inspiration to me! Watching Bethany show such passion for her blog and business has been really neat to watch! Each day I get so excited to see what she has come up with– she always puts together such classy, beautiful posts.
So, without further ado, let me introduce this fun little home decor project!
The walls in our bathroom have been bare ever since we moved into our house nearly two years ago. Well, blank but with bright blue walls. It wasn’t until my husband decided to take a super ugly, gold door off our shower that I started to think about how to decorate our little bathroom. The ugly 80’s door is now gone and I have a shower liner up that will soon be replaced with some fabulous curtain… just to find that fabulous curtain!
To add some accent colors to our blue walls, I thought it would be fun, easy and cheap to frame some fabric. I first purchased three white frames from IKEA for $5 each and then headed to the fabric store. I had a color combo of a yellowy-green and white in mind for the fabric, but finding the right combo of patterns on the fabric was another story! I think I stood in front of the rows of fabric for a good hour placing different fabrics next to each other and debating whether I truly liked certain fabrics together or not. Making decisions when it comes to color can be very hard!

After much back and forth, I finally decided on this combo that I am fairly pleased with.

To insert the fabric into the frames, I just cut the pieces to size, ironed them and secured them in the frames with a few pieces of tape. If you don’t iron the fabric, you will be able to see the most slight of wrinkles in your frame. That could add a cool effect, just make sure of the effect you are going for ahead of time! I decided to repeat the dotted fabric for two frames so that I could make the blue, flowery fabric be the focal point. I asked my hubby to help me hang the frames, but right as he picked up one of the dotted frames he saw the the dots were a little crooked in the frame, so he went on to straighten that out.
Here is the wall in all it’s bright blue glory before:

And here it is after! (Forgive the glare on the frame)

It has added some excitement above our corner toilet. Yes, we have a corner toilet.
The total for the fabric was $9 because I used some nicer Amy Butler like fabrics. It obviously could have been done even much cheaper with different fabrics. So with the three frames and fabric, the total came to $24. Not bad to add some color and spunk to a little bathroom, right? What is neat about this project is that it can be done on so many different scales to really add some excitement to a room.
Thanks again to Bethany for letting me post!

Thank you, Rachel for putting this together and sharing this simple, wonderful project with the b*spoke readers! I don’t know about you, but I am inspired to head out and find some cute fabrics to frame up and hang on the walls. There are so many different patterns and prints that would add interest to a wall, and all without breaking the bank. Can’t wait to try this idea!

The turquoise/bright green color combo is one of my new favorites. I also loved that you used 2 different patterns…they look really great! I think I will be doing this soon.
