in my closet {summer sails}

bspoke_6-9-10_1

I put this outfit together based on something I’ve been wearing lately. Now, I haven’t actually set sail while wearing this particular ensemble, but I think the colors and comfort level would be perfect for a breezy afternoon of skimming across sparkling blue waters under the shadow of a billowy, while sail. I have the tee and hoodie and absolutely adore them both. They weren’t very expensive, and they are superbly comfy (two requirements for any clothing purchase of mine). I just love having a lightweight hoodie to throw in a bag for cool summer evenings, you know? The shorts are very similar to a pair I have from Aeropostale, and the sandals just caught my eye. The bag is darling, no? I can picture it being filled to the brim with boat (or beach) essentials; like a good book, sunscreen, a baseball cap, water bottle, camera, and maybe a couple snacks. Mmmm… summer, how I love thee!

in my closet {spring things}

I’m not sure why, but for the past few months I’ve been featuring dresses and skirts for all my style guides. Now, I haven’t actually been wearing these dresses or skirts that much, but they’ve been on my mind. I’m hoping that when the temps grow warmer, I will become a regular dress-wearer. What I love about this look is that it’s simple and comfortable, while still possessing a bit of flair. The gathering on the dress and sweater add a sweetness, while the chunky necklace gives the whole ensemble a bit more substance.

This necklace, by the way, is fantastic. I happen to own it. Oh, and the best part is that I got it for only $6! Gotta love clearance. You may recognize the shoes from this post. I must mention, they are so comfortable. I added a simple black wallet that could easily double as a clutch. I see this outfit working for a morning meeting or an afternoon at the farmers market!

in my closet {spring in the country}

bspoke_4-7-10_2

Last month I put together a style based on a spring evening outing in downtown. This month, I decided to create a contrasting look for a spring evening in the country. I’m picturing a date very much like the ones that Zack and I go on more often than not… a dinner of burgers and shakes at a casual, local diner, then maybe a drive in the country or a walk by the lake. These types of dates are truly my favorite. They are like a worn-in pair of boots–comfortable, soft, and stable. There is something entirely reassuring about spending time with your spouse, holding their hand and knowing that no matter what comes, all is right in the world. Ok, before I get too off track, better get back to the style guide!

in my closet {spring in the city} + DISCOUNT CODE!

I am a summer girl, 100% to the core. There is nothing better to me than being barefoot on the boat under a hot August sun. With that being said, about this time of year, I am itching for all the snow to melt and warmer days to come. My wardrobe is starting to feel too warm and heavy, and I am looking forward to lighter attire like shorts and skirts and dresses. Over the past few months, I’ve been thinking that this summer, I want to wear more casual dresses… to work, out and about, and for special occasions. There is something simple and sweet about a comfortable, well-fitting dress. With that thought in mind, I found myself quite pleasantly surprised when Shabby Apple approached me about trying out one of their dresses, and offering a discount to my readers.

If you haven’t heard of Shabby Apple, let me enlighten you. They are a wonderful company that is dedicated to creating stylish, comfortable dresses that are easy to wear, and easy to love. They have a huge line of styles that range from stunningly gorgeous to refreshingly simple. They also have dresses for little girls and preteens! Their dresses are affordable, beautiful and entirely do-able for a girl like me (who doesn’t naturally feel comfortable in a dress). The girls at Shabby Apple were kind enough to send me over a sample of the Five to Nine dress, which I have completely fallen in love with. It’s dressy enough for a night on the town, but the fabric makes it workable for a more casual setting as well.

I put together this style board based on the Five to Nine dress, and the idea of a sophisticated spring date downtown. I’m picturing a stroll along Nicollet Mall, dinner on a rooftop terrance and then maybe a concert or a play. Sounds fabulous, no?

NOW, the very, very best part of all this is that Shabby Apple wants to extend an awesome deal to all of you! Enter the code “Simple Fancies” when purchasing anything through Shabby Apple, and you will receive 10% off your entire order!!

in my closet {boots!}

Well, since I posted about my latest style obsession with these boots, I have really fallen in love with BOOTS in general. Boots of all shapes and sizes and styles have me at hello. I am crazy about cowboys boots, riding boots, winter boots… you get the idea. So, this month, In My Closet is entirely dedicated to BOOTS! While searching for my favorite styles, I found that I have what may be an unhealthy obsession with Frye boots. Their styles are easy to love (the price tags, not so much). Four out of these six pairs are all made by Frye. I had to throw in a pair of true cowboy boots, and one fair of Sorels, because I do, after all, live in the frozen northland and a girl has to be stylish and practical sometimes.
